Both drivers and pedestrians can be victims at the same time

Car accidents happen all too often. Whether a driver is under the influence of alcohol or a drug, or they simply aren’t paying attention to the road in front of them, their negligence can spell disaster for those around them.

There was no safe place

Disaster is exactly what found at least four people recently, in Siler City, North Carolina, about an hour north of Fayetteville. According to police, a 60-year-old man driving a white Chevrolet Equinox, who was traveling westbound on U.S. 64 through Siler City. According to reports, the man was driving too fast for the conditions and exited his lane, colliding with another vehicle in the process.

He then drove through the oncoming traffic lanes and off the road entirely, entering the parking lot of a popular restaurant. Unfortunately, it was afternoon at the time, with pedestrians at the restaurant to eat. The premises themselves were closed to diners and they could only walk up to make their orders. This put them in the path of the out-of-control car, leading to tragedy.

Four people were struck by the car. Two of them, a 39-year-old woman and an 18-year-old man, escaped with injuries that were not life-threatening. But a 77-year-old woman suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to a nearby hospital. And worst of all, a 64-year-old man was killed – his life ended for no other reason than the negligence of a driver who was not careful enough.
